Either way, it's not what happens in the upcoming Amityville: The Awakening, if the newly released trailer is anything to judge by. Formerly known as just Amityville, this new installment in the Amityville Horror movie franchise - the twelfth overall (!) - Restart the supernatural horror site (... again), and has no connection to the Amityville Horror remake (starring Ryan Reynolds), who was published a decade ago. Well, except that both films revolves around a family that moves into the same Long Island house where, in 1974, took a lot of crime scene.
The Amityville: The Awakening trailer footage (see above) contains the usual disturbing events, seemingly supernatural entities and scares necessary leap. It's also got some surprisingly ugly body horror elements too, what with bedridden James (at's Cameron Monaghan game) attracts supernatural maggots and becomes obsessed with demonic powers that transform him into a sort of Gollum-esque monster. Or maybe it's all in the head by his sister, Belle (Bella Thorne), who slowly insane when she begins to hear voices telling her to "kill them all.
Amityville: The Awakening was scripted and directed by Franck Khalfoun that certainly did not have a thing to do gruesome horror fare - as evidenced by his previous collaboration with writer / producer Alexandre Aja on film as P2 and Maniac remake. Khalfoun new movie seems to have its fair share of rough too; whether it will evoke much in the way of horror or scary effective storytelling, it is another matter. (Release date does not inspire a lot of confidence, though.)
Cast of Amityville: The Awakening contains Jennifer Jason Leigh (the spectacular now), Taylor Spreitler(Melissa & Joey) and Thomas Mann (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters), among others.
